While claw clips and barrettes have been the breakout accessories of 2019 thus far, we’re anticipating that the rest of the year will be all about hair scarves. Hair scarves are on-trend, perfect for concealing bad hair days (hello, humidity), and one of the most versatile hair accessories you can find. Though, if you have fine hair like me, getting a hair scarf to stay put for more than 10 minutes can be a bit of a struggle.

Looking for a few ways to style a hair scarf? I reached out to Laura Dyer, Kérastase artist, to find out her best no-slip tips and tricks for how to make a hair scarf last all day long. Whether you’re searching for a braided bohemian hairstyle or something simple, check out the video below to see how I style my fine, ash blonde hair with a hair scarf.

The Best Ways To Style A Hair Scarf

Hair Scarf With Half-Up Ponytail

Beginning with clean, dry hair, use a brush to detangle and smooth your mane.

Divide the top section of hair horizontally from ear to ear and secure it with a hair elastic to create a half-up ponytail

Loop another hair elastic around the center of the scarf. This is a great trick to keep your scarf from slipping.

Then, secure the elastic attached to the scarf around the base of the ponytail. Adjust the scarf to conceal the hair elastic and complete the look with a few spritzes of flexible hold hairspray like the Kérastase Laque Dentelle Hair Spray

Hair Scarf With Side Braid

Before you begin, create a side part on either side of your head. Comb all of your hair to the side your hair is parted on and sweep it over your shoulder. Apply a few spritzes of the Kérastase Laque Couture Hairspray throughout your strands.

Attach an elastic around the center of the scarf and tie it around your hair at the nape of your neck to secure a low ponytail.

Divide the ponytail into two even sections and use the scarf as a third section. Wrap one side of the scarf around the base of the ponytail to hide the hair elastic.

Beginning at the base of the ponytail, use the three sections you created to craft a three-strand braid. Take the section farthest to the right and cross it over the middle section. Then, take the segment farthest to the left and cross it over the middle.

Repeat these steps until you reach the end of your hair. Loop the remaining fabric from the scarf at the end of your hair to lock your braid in place and use the pancaking technique for added volume.
