We consider blonde hair the prized pony of the hair world. Everyone has wanted to go blonde at least once.If you haven’t tried a dirty blonde hue or a blonde balayage before, now is the perfect time to take the plunge!
Even though we’re still obsessed with the blonde hair color trends of this year, we’re already looking ahead to what shades we can expect to see next. According to Jackie Epperson, a L’Oréal Professionnel artist, there are plenty of gorgeous blonde hues on the rise for 2019. The colorist shares five blonde hair colors she predicts will be huge in the coming months. If you’re reading this to find the perfect one for you, you’re in luck.
We’re breaking down everything you need to know about Epperson’s blonde hair picks including how to achieve them, who they’re best for, and the products you need for post-salon care.
Platinum Power Blonde
What is platinum power blonde hair color?
No hue packs a punch quite like platinum blonde. While the bold blonde shade seems intimidating at first glance, Epperson says it can be adjusted to fit just about any skin tone.
There are so many variants of a platinum power blonde and depending on skin tone, you can live in a slightly more buttery power blonde....if icy colors look better on you, glossing to create a cooler silvery tone may be better.
Not interested in a full head of power platinum? Ask your colorist for platinum highlights with a darker root. This look allows you to get a taste of platinum blonde without the need to touch up your roots constantly.
How do you maintain platinum power blonde hair color?
Epperson explains that going platinum blonde can be a serious commitment. If you’re not looking to hit the salon every few weeks, she suggests steering clear of the shade.
“Three to four weeks is the best amount of time to head to the salon for a retouch...so it is not for the faint of heart,” Epperson says.
No matter which look you choose, aftercare is essential for keeping your platinum hair looking and feeling it’s absolute best. Epperson recommends in-salon treatments like L’Oréal Professionnel Powermix. She also suggests picking up a neutralizing shampoo like the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Magnesium Silver Shampoo. Formulated with an anti-yellowing agent to neutralize yellow tones, it leaves hair feeling soft and looking shiny.
Warm Honey Blonde
What is warm honey blonde hair color?
In 2018, warm-toned blondes took a bit of a breather and let the cool tones have their moment. In 2019, however, Epperson predicts warmer tones like honey blonde will be back and better than ever.
“Warm tones are so light reflective and can be created many different ways...highlights, base colors, balayage, foilyage, color melting, you name it,” Epperson says.
When deciding on the perfect honey blonde hue for you, Epperson says eye color, skin tone, and even the color of clothing you wear most often should all be taken into consideration—your colorist can adjust your hue to pair perfectly with anything.
How do you maintain warm honey blonde hair?
Warm honey blonde is one of Epperson’s favorite shades simply because of how versatile it is. If having a high-maintenance color is a concern for you, she recommends asking your colorist for a honey blonde balayage.
“Balayage can give them a soft grow out and naturally looks as if the sun has given them this look,” Epperson says.
If you don’t mind frequent salon visits, however, opt for an all-over honey blonde color with a pop of highlights.
A shampoo and conditioner system specially formulated for blonde hair is a must. Epperson recommends the L’Oréal Professionnel Blondifier line.
Strawberry Blonde
What is strawberry blonde hair color?
Strawberry blonde is another warm-toned hue Epperson loves for 2019. It’s perfect for the color daredevils out there looking to make a statement. The hue doesn’t stray too far from a neutral color but gives longtime blondes a chance to experiment with something new.
While strawberry blonde is typically on the warmer side, if you prefer cooler shades your colorist can create an iridescent strawberry hue rather than a deeper golden shade.
How do you maintain strawberry blonde hair?
Strawberry blonde is technically in the red color family—meaning the hue is a bit harder to maintain than a traditional blonde. A full head of strawberry blonde will require frequent touch-ups to maintain the vibrancy of the color. For a lower-maintenance look, your colorist can incorporate coppery lowlights throughout your blonde.
For at-home strawberry blonde color care, Epperson recommends the L’Oréal Professionnel Vitamino Color A-OX Shampoo and Conditioner followed by the Vitamino Color A-OX Jelly Masque.
Bronde
What is bronde hair color?
Bronde hair is ideal for any brunette looking to add a subtle touch of blonde to their look while still staying true to their roots. To get this brown-meets-blonde hue, your colorist will lighten pieces of your brunette base to give you hints of blonde throughout your hair.
“This look can be altered to be cooler or warmer just by glossing the blonde based on the desired goal,” Epperson says.
How do you maintain bronde hair color?
The level of color maintenance depends on the bronde shade you choose. Epperson says the look can be tailored to fit those with tight schedules or people who don’t mind a bit of maintenance.
“For less maintenance, stick to balayage or foilyage...if you are looking for more of an all over bronde look, you may opt for full highlights and base color,” Epperson says.
Your colorist will need to use bleach to achieve your desired shade of bronde—which can leave your hair with significant damage. Epperson recommends the L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Ripidium line.
Multi-Dimensional Blonde
What is multi-dimensional blonde hair color?
Epperson believes multi-dimensional hair will be huge in 2019. Think fewer ‘90s-style streaks and more pops of color and lowlights for added depth.
“Lowlights can be added into the hair is so many ways...foils, balayage, hair painting, color melting, the list goes on and on,” Epperson says.
There is no one size fits all formula for multi-dimensional blonde. Instead, your colorist will create a hue with cool, warm, or neutral undertones depending on your skin color and desired coverage.
How do you maintain multi-dimensional blonde hair color?
Low maintenance clients should opt for a balayage with soft lowlights. This technique allows you more time before needing to touch up your color. If you’re not afraid of a little maintenance, go bold with a blend of highlights and lowlights!
Multi-dimensional blonde looks best when it’s vibrant—which means your hair care routine should focus on keeping your hue as bright as possible. Try the L’Oréal Professionnel Vitamino Color A-OX Shampoo and Conditioner for color radiance.
With Epperson’s tips, you’re ready to determine which blonde hair will be perfect for you in 2019!
